Planning:

At the beginning of November 2014, we were set a brief which we had to follow for our preliminary task, detailing;

The task should follow a character as he/she walks through a door, crosses a room and sits down in a chair opposite another character. The two characters will then exchange a few lines of dialogue. The sequence should fit the thriller genre.

We were placed into groups of 3-4 and given two weeks to complete this task. I was placed in a group with Niall Banks, George Quinn and Adam Gordon. In order to plan our piece, firstly we brainstormed ideas, many of which we decided would be too difficult or wouldn't work in the extract. We then storyboarded our extract, which took a couple of lessons, as we were also looking for cast. Eventually I was cast as the man on the piano, and Joe St John as the man walking. We then tried out a number of shots and lighting techniques inside the school's music room, in order to make sure we had a good shot. We used a red filtered light as well as a normal light in order to get a sinister atmosphere. We also recorded some footstep noises in order to be able to sync up our audio with the video. Finally, we scouted for locations, as some of our piece had to be shot outside of school. We also had to change the original setting of the scene with the piano.
