Thriller Shots:

Trombone/Dolly Shot:
The Dolly Shot or Trombone Shot, is synonymous with thrillers. The shot involves the camera moving backwards, usually on a track or dolly, whilst zooming in. This gives the effect of the background to shrink, whilst the foreground remains the same/similar sizeIt was first popularised in thrillers in Alfred Hitchcock's 'Vertigo', in which it is used to reflect the feeling felt by the protagonist whilst at a height.
Pull focus:

The pull focus is a common shot throughout film. However, when put to effect in thrillers, it is particularly effective, and often serves as a means to reveal a key plot detail. The shot involves shifting the focus from one part of the frame to another, usually foreground to background or vice versa.
One example, of pull focus being used in thrillers is in rope, in which the camera often shifts focus between the dinner party and the wooden chest, in order to remind viewers of the dead body inside the chest.
